Building a PR Blogging Community

In an earlier post this year I wrote about the need to integrate blogging within schools. Robert French had already taken this step when he and his students organized the Auburn PR Blog, but now he has taken it to a different level. With the creation of PRblogs.org, Robert and his partner James Farmer have built a PR blogging community that is offered not only to PR students, but all PR practitioners and educators.

The purpose of PRblogs.org is to provide a service that (a) allows for experimentation with the medium, (b) a community that discusses the implications of blogs in PR and (c) to help bridge the PR education and practitioner communities.

If you are in PR and have wanted to experiment with blogging, I highly suggest visiting the site and signing up for a blog of your own - it won’t hurt to try it out. Everyone is there to learn and share knowledge amongst one another - all while building relationships. I see great potential in PRblogs.org and believe that it will be a success for those who take advantage of it. By the way, it’s free and it’s extremely easy to use. Currently, there are 37 bloggers enrolled.

On a side note - I admire Robert for reaching out to us all and bringing together people to learn from one another – displaying the traits of true educator. Also, special props to Jeremy Pepper who has been highly involved with helping junior bloggers like myself, and the ones at Auburn, grow. Man, where were you guys when I was in college :]

Garsh, now you got me embarassed. You know I'll take cels as thank yous. :-)

Someone has to mentor or at least offer support. I'm fine with doing that, because we are a community that should help each other, not tear each other down. Well, that comes later.

:-) See, proof that Jeremy is nice.

Blake, thanks for the kind words of support for PRblogs.org.

I hope we can encourage students and practitioners to take the steps you've chosen - early on in your career - to familiarize themselves with new ideas, too. We are all enjoying watching your blog.

Today I noted that we've had one new blog (each) from Spain and France, too. So, baby steps right now and hope it grows.

Thanks again.
